Yana Castle––Romanian Folk Patterns
Yana Castle
July 15 · Edited ·
Romanian folk patterns find their roots in part with Thracian, Dacian and Getae ancestral motifs and resembles that of the peoples of the Balkan Peninsula with differences consisting of decorative and colorful details including various apotropaic designs (warding off the evil eye), signs and symbols connected to nature such as sun, the tree of life, the column of the sky, curved line meanders and chevrons, the birth-giving mother, birds and snakes. Since 3500 BC, the purpose of the garments worn by the ancestors was to facilitate dialogue with the unseen forces of the cosmos.
